Vinyl Pool Liner Repair

Replacement

Vinyl pool liners will need to be replaced eventually. They typically last about 10-12 years, but they can last less time than that and they can last quite a bit longer, as well.

The biggest factors influencing the aging of your pool liner are temperature and sunlight. Sunlight, or specifically ultraviolet (UV) light is hard on liners. You may thoroughly enjoy the sun in the summer and want as much as possible, but UV light breaks down vinyl over time.

Another factor that affects the vinyl liner is how well it fits the pool. A vinyl liner that was measured correctly and exactly fits your pool size will last longer than a liner that was “stretched” to fit. That means using professional and experienced pool installers like us is more economical over time because your liner may last longer than average.

Water temperature swings also age vinyl. Brutally hot summers and bitterly cold winters with similar changes in water temperature degrade vinyl over time.

Water chemistry can also affect the liner. You want your chemistry to be stable and as unchanging as possible. The more stable your chemistry is, the longer the liner will last, all other factors being equal.

Repair

Sometimes a vinyl pool liner needs a small spot repair. Whether or not a vinyl liner can be repaired depends on the type of damage, the location of damage, and the size of the damage. Most—but not all--small tears can be repaired, at least temporarily.
