Vinyl Pool Liner Maintenance Tips
As you know, vinyl pool liners need to be replaced on a regular basis, roughly every eight to ten years. How you maintain your vinyl liner makes a difference with how long it will last. Here are some tips on best practices with vinyl liner maintenance.
Keep it clean
Keep you vinyl pool liner clean. That means keeping your pool clean, the water clean, and the liner. If needed, use a soft brush to clean off anything adhering to the liner like algae.
Cover the pool
If you’re not using the pool, then keep it covered. Ultraviolet rays from the sun break down the vinyl lining over time, so there’s no upside to keep the pool in the bright sun if you’re not using it. Use the cover. The cover also helps to keep the pool clean, reduce evaporation, and maintain the chemistry.
Keep sharp objects away
Don’t put anything sharp in the pool that can pierce the liner. Similarly, if you have big trees nearby, keep them pruned to avoid branches in the pool.
Maintain your chemistry
Also keep your chemistry where it should be. Large swings in chemistry are damaging to the liner. Also add chemicals appropriately, avoiding large chemical additions right next to the liner if possible.
Much of keeping the vinyl pool liner in good shape is common sense. But a little care all the time will add years to your pool liner.
