How to Choose the Right In-Ground Pool Size for Your Property

Choosing the right in-ground pool size should be carefully considered before you finalize your plans. It’s much easier to make changes before you start building your in-ground pool than it is once the pool is already built. So, here is our advice on the primary considerations for determining in-ground pool size.

Space

How much space do you have available? Do you have certain space restrictions because of property size or layout? Space available should be the first consideration. Is there a certain size that you want to meet design or landscape or hardscape plans? If you already have detailed outdoor plans for the property, you may already have a good idea what you want and need.

Intended Use

Pool expenses increase with size. This is obvious. The bigger the pool, the more expensive it is to run on an  ongoing basis, for example, to heat it and put chemicals in it. Relatively speaking, a bigger pool also costs more to build, not necessarily a lot more, but more.

So, what do you want the pool for? If the primary use is one person swimming laps, then you don’t need a giant pool. In fact, a lap pool may be sufficient. However, if you want to have frequent pool parties, then you would likely be happier with something bigger.

Will friends and relatives be congregating at your house a lot when the weather is good? Then you may want something big. Do you just want something for cooling off when the weather is very hot? Then something smaller may do nicely, just to go for a dip.

Budget

The next consideration is budget. As mentioned earlier, the bigger you go, the bigger the cost. Remember that a larger pool will need larger equipment to service it, larger pumps, larger heaters, and more chemicals. As part of the budget, you also have to consider if you want a lot of bells and whistles such as expansive hardscapes or sophisticated lighting in and around the pool.

These are the main points to consider when preparing to build an in-ground pool and determining the right size for your project. If you want to build on the Sunshine Coast or Vancouver Island, give us a call at (778) 537-2003, and we can discuss it with you and answer your questions.
